the Monday Snapshot: Pumpkin patch edition

My very favorite fall tradition is taking Leopold to the pumpkin patch each year. The one close to us is pretty enormous and overkill, but it’s become our place and we’ll keep going back every year late September / October. The older he gets the more into the crazy attractions they have (like the giraffes. Seriously. We didn’t even get to them this year, either, there was so much else to do).

Leopold’s first year I got some of my very favorite pictures of him as a baby and despite the entrance fee I was hooked. i mean, seriously? That smile? The giant pumpkins? Hooked.

Leopold – about 5 months of chubby adorableness. Just seeing this picture makes me want to cry.

He was so cute and we had so much fun snapping pictures there, such a good first family outing memory.

Year two was a whole different thing, there was a lot of chasing of a very rambunctious toddler. It was a lot of fun still, but different:

year two – tromping around the pumpkin patch as a crazy 17ish month old

His third trip to the pumpkin patch at 2 yrs 4 months (how is that even possible he’s that old?), was a blast. We went with some friends with two boys one 4 year old and one right around Leopold’s age. It was a whole different experience this year now that he understands and communicates so much. It’s amazing how much they change in a year.

Leopold picked out his own pumpkin this year. Found it and exclaimed “It’s a little pumpkin! Perfect for (Leopold)!”

got it

A cute, perfect little pumpkin. He’s carrying it around like, “pumpkin, u my bitch.”

Ain’t no thang, Mom. I got this.

I’m glad we made it there this year and kept the tradition going. It’s mind-boggling to think how much this kid has grown in the past three falls, and unfathomable to think of taking TWO kids there next year (an almost 1 year old and a nearly 3.5 year old?). I cannot imagine what that will look, feel, or be like.

In lady baby news, 38 weeks today. Come on out, lil one! First dilation check on Tuesday morning.

  1. Oh how wonderful!!! I love that you guys have this tradition and that it’s something you’ll be able to continue through the years. This is the time of year that I miss home the most, because of all the fall-winter things like pumpkin patch, Halloween, hay rides, etc. Enjoy!!!

P.S. I also love the obviously varying weather! Nothing like the midwest!! 😉

  2. These photos are wonderful!! What a great traditional! 🙂 It is amazing too see how much he has grown. He doesn’t even look like a toddler in this year’s photos… he looks like a little boy.. and a strong one at that, lugging his own pumpkin around! 🙂 Gosh I miss fall!!

  3. oh gosh, the rocker picture made me laugh. You deserve some kind of award for getting up there, 38 wks pregnant. Go you!
And seriously…Leopold, so adorable. I can only imagine how cute and adorable Lady Baby will be!

  4. Ooh – I love seeing the progression over the years! We are headed to a pumpkin patch in 2 weeks that’s about 3 hrs from here (same one I went to with a girlfriend of mine last year) and I’m so excited to see how much more into it Stella will be this year!

  5. What a big boy! How great that you’ve gone to the same place year after year–such a perfect way to build memories and take some great photos. It’ll be so wonderful to see the new little lady in the shots next year.

Almost go-time! I’m excited to learn her name 🙂

  6. Oh man, we’d better get on the pumpkin patch visit! We went to a maze yesterday, sans camera of course, and the kid played hide the pumpkin (there were about 50 decorating the small maze). Amazing how big they get, isn’t it?

  7. So tiny in the first one. And next year TWO! We are heading to our favorite pumpkin patch / apple orchard in a couple of weeks. Need to remember the camera.
